Chains are snap straps NOT snatch straps....
Dumb ass cave monkeys are the only primates on earth that love to ride in mud.

That truck sounds like a chain saw.
would have had more luck if they laid the chain over top the spare tire about 3' in front of the buried jeep, this would have pulled it up and out!
Or cut a few 24 or so inch long pieces of saplings and used the broken strap to tie to the tires, go slow and crawl out of that mud hole. Did the same with a 7foot log chained to my Super M Farmall Tractor a few years back with my 'OL Man'..
