I'm going to make this as short as possible. I think I've told the story here before but......me and 3 buddies went hunting and we parked on a very rarely used road so my buddy Jeff parked his truck straddling the road. As we were getting our gear out of the back of the truck a kid(I think he was a junior) was partially blinded by the morning sun on the horizon. Unfortunately the blind spot was Jeff's truck! He NEVER even saw us! Suddenly a car going about 50-60 miles an hour run into the back of Jeff's truck. 3 of us were fortunate enough to dive out of the way. Sadly Jeff was not and he immediately lost his left leg just above the knee! Unlike this guy Jeff's wound was not cauterized(sp?)like this guy's wound evidently was and he was. Jeff was bleeding terrible and we had to tie a tourniquet to his leg and since this was the age before cell phones(I think it was 86-87) we got him in the truck and was at the hospital in about 15 minutes!
He lived but he had many infections and sadly he lost the remainder of his leg and even up into his groin. Penis included! I knew his wife well and they were in the process of attempting to have kids! So, so sad huh?
Going through something like that takes a toll on everyone involved. Mainly the "victim" but also the one's that had to stay calm and make sure out buddy lived! It's amazing how we can stay on purpose. I always thought that I would freak. I think we ALL have something like that in us. It's just very rarely needed! Thank God!
